Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporter Association (EHPEA) established in September 2002 and have garnered broad recognition by the Government of Ethiopia, other national and international stakeholders. Presently, it is lead by Executive committee and Audit Committee consists of five and three members respectively who are elected by the general assembly of members. For running its day-to-day activities, EHPEA hired an Executive Director supported by Assistant Executive director and other three-support staffs.

Ethiopian Horticulture Sector Profile

Ethiopian horticulture export has been growing rapidly since recently and often considered as a success story in Ethiopia’s efforts to diversify exports and eradicate poverty. However, the sector needs continued support if it is to meet the high expectations with respect to its potential to provide a substantial increase in employment opportunities, foreign exchange earnings and positive impact on related agricultural sector and service providers. In line with this, lack of sector specific strategy was one of key constraints for the growth of horticulture sector in the country. Recently, Ethiopian Horticulture Development Strategy developed that could ultimately facilitates the future growth of the sector. Until recently, horticulture was seen as one of the most underdeveloped sectors in Ethiopia and its contribution to the countries export earning had been almost negligible. In 2004/2005 its contribution to export earning reached to 3.6% and expected to rise in the coming consecutive years.
